The Mountain Ministry Parish is the
Presbyterian congregations at Ancho, Corona, and Nogal - ranching
communities flung out across hundreds and hundreds of square
miles of the central mountains of New Mexico. In recent times
the parish has reopened the sanctuary at Claunch as a preaching
point, and it is now included in the parish as well.
The empty reaches of New Mexico's Sacramento
Mountains are a tale writ in coyotes, pinon and sage. A first-look
impression might be, "There lives here only wild things."
And yet for several generations people have made their homes
in these canyons and valleys, raising children, raising cattle
and serving God. In much of this area Presbyterians have the
only church around. Presbyterian mission dollars provide pastoral
services and program support for the parish and its congregations.
Worship, Christian Education and faith life in community continue
for yet another generation of ranching families.
