Rogelio Ruiz came to live in Roswell in 1969. A lovely wife and precious daughter made up the Ruiz family. They have experienced several challenges in their journey, but nothing quite as challenging as what they face now. Rogelio's wife is in her late fifties, and just found out that she is diabetic and has high blood pressure. She was hospitalized for two weeks, and Rogelio nearly lost his wife during that period of time. His daughter is in her mid twenties and has had severe headaches since early childhood. Rogelio has always taken care of his wife and daughter, but he too is under much stress. He often worries about his wife, and that is contributing to his own health problems. Recently Rogelio started to experience memory loss, and that has scared him. He is quite afraid of what is happening to him because he knows he has to be in good health to take care of his family.

Rogelio made it to our office one day when his utilities were about to be shut off. His first words were, "Surely God would hear the prayers of his people." He was hurting deep inside and was in need of prayer. After a short prayer in our office we began to address the utility problems. We quickly got them under control (it only took about $38 to make all the difference, and get him out of arrears - it is amazing what a little bit can do at the right time and place); it wasn't long before Rogelio could see that God was indeed at work for him. We both could see God healing his heart, and a smile from Rogelio was the proof. Sometimes life can seem overwhelming, but it is just then that God begins to work for us. We believe that Rogelio and many others like him who long suffer will receive the unconditional love and blessings that God has for them.

Rogelio has since come by our office just to say that he appreciates the prayer and the support we gave him in his time of need. He says that he prays for us and hopes that God always will bless us.  It is probably important for all who support this ministry to remember that all good gifts come from the Giver, and we are simply stewards of them. We here at Presbyterian Outreach only want to be the bridge that is available for the children of God during their time of need.
