 ACTIVITIES

First Presbyterian Church of Tucumcari, known as the "Church with the Holy Spirit Window" (a 25 ft. stained-glass work of art), serves Jesus Christ in Tucumcari, "Gateway to the Southwest" on historic Route 66.
Theologically, we stand within the Reformed tradition, believing that God revealed Himself uniquely in Jesus Christ, and authoritatively in Scripture.  In doing so, we seek to avoid two extremes. On the one hand, we cannot agree with those who would define Christianity down to a set of cold doctrinal ideas. On the other hand, we reject the notion that we may rebel against Scripture's authority in favor of our own personal ideas of "truth". We are people-oriented and are ready to see God use this congregation to impact our corner of the world with the power of the Gospel.

Mission Outreach to Tucumcari

Tucumcari, back in the horse-and-buggy days, started as a tent city named "Liberty", a stopover and resting point for the new railroad headed west. The name got changed at some point to Six Shooter Siding, and developed quite a reputation for being the hang-out of some less-than-honorable types like the notorious Black Jack Ketchum. Billy the Kid's old stomping grounds are less than an hour away at Fort Sumner.
Today we serve Christ in a pleasant and friendly community where scenic mesas and bold, beautiful sunsets give us daily reminders of God's love here in the Land of Enchantment. When the sun shines through our glorious Holy Spirit stained-glass window during morning worship, it is as if God Himself is shining down on the congregation. Small in numbers, but big in heart, the congregation is like a tightly woven quilt. Each member is a unique square, bringing his or her own special qualities to this work of the Lord.
