Beginning early in the last half of the 19th century, the country around Nogal was being prospected. No town was yet established - the first post office was granted on Nov. 4, 1880 and in 1882 the current church building was constructed for a school, which continued until the late 1940's when it became a victim of consolidation.
Even before the school was discontinued Sunday School was being held, led by Presbyterian Sunday School Missionary Roger Sherman. The first installed minister, Lou Markham made the trip from the manse in Claunch, over unpaved roads in any kind of weather, in their old Studebaker , with a portable organ in the back seat. Other notable ministers have included William Lytle, who would later be Moderator of the General Assembly of the denomination. Currently the congregation is being served by Rev. Bill Sebring.
While membership in the congregations has gone through its highs and lows, reflecting circumstances in the region, the church is currently experiencing a membership boom making it percentage-wise the fastest growing Sierra Blanca Presbytery congregation in 1999. The congregation remodeled and restored the building in 1999, readying the church for ministry in a new millennium.
