MISSION STATEMENT

Ancho Community Prsbyterian Church is a fellowship built around the Holy Scripture. We strive to be a faithful witness in our community and within our fellowship. We are ecumenical minded and work closely with others who believe in the love of Jesus Christ . We seek to worship the Lord our God with humble hearts and hands of service. We seek to grow in our understanding of the divine plan and what part we are entrusted with.

Our goal is to nurture the spiritual growth of our congregation to better equip our members for service; to bear witness to God’s amazing love though outreach through local and global mission; to remain faithful in our commitment to use our time, talents and resources to further God’s kingdom on earth.

Our mission is to become more faithful servants through fellowship, service and shared worship opportunities.

History

The Presbyterian Church at Ancho has faithfully served ranching families in the mountains of south-central New Mexico ever since Presbyterian Sunday School Missionaries began meetings, back as far as 1904. The most famous of these was the Rev. Roger Sherman, who came on the field in 1931 and braved rough weather and unpaved roads to bring the Gospel to the mountains. Rev. Sherman didn't wish to impose on anyone for a night's lodging, and used to carry a bedroll in his car, and insisted on sleeping off the road under the stars the night before church services.  Another famous servant of the Ancho congregation is the Rev. William Lytle, who was on this field from 1955 until 1962, and later became Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

The Community Presbyterian Church of Ancho is part of the Mountain Ministry Parish, in Sierra Blanca Presbytery.
